MEXICO - Postgraduate Scholarships

Here is your opportunity to experience the Australian education system and culture while at the same time earning a postgraduate degree from a world-class Australian institution.

 

In Mexico, the Peace Scholarship Program is managed by the Secretariat of Public Education, Mexico (SEP) in conjunction with IDP Education Australia in Sydney, Australia.

 

Commencing study in July 2009, up to five students from Mexico will be awarded scholarships to undertake a master degree of your choice at one of the following universities:

 

WHAT DO I GET?

 

The Peace Scholarship Program for postgraduate students form Mexico includes:

  • Tuition fees for a two or three semester Masters Degree at participating Australian universities
  • US$1,000 per month to cover living costs, accommodation and other costs while in Australia (travel and visa costs are the responsibility of the recipient)
  • Two day orientation welcome program
  • Other services and products offered by supporters of the Peace Scholarship Program
  • Lifetime networking opportunities with Peace Scholarship recipients worldwide

Students who meet the eligibility criteria as provided below are invited to apply for the Peace Scholarship.

 

HOW DO I APPLY?

 

STEP 1

Ensure you fulfil each of the general selection criteria as detailed below as well as the specific university criteria for the scholarship that you are applying for

 

General Seletion Criteria

  • At the time of application you have completed your undergraduate degree at a university in Mexico, or will be completing it by December 2008
  • Your credit average for your undergraduate degree was at least 75%
  • You have a level of English language proficiency that satisfies both Student Visa requirements for entry to Australia as well as host institution requirements (see below)
  • You do not hold citizenship or permanent residency in Australia and have not previously studied overseas, either in Australia or elsewhere (unless on a scholarship or to study English) 
  • You are able to demonstrate a commitment to ‘global peace and understanding’ through community, academic or professional achievements
  • You are able to indicate how the Peace Scholarship experience will enhance  your professional development and help contribute to global peace and understanding
  • You are able to demonstrate a financial need and that without this scholarship you would not have the chance to study overseas

Additional Criteria for University of New South Wales Scholarship

  • Minumum English Language requirements:
  • IELTS: 6.5 overall, and minimum 6.0 in each category
  • Paper Based TOEFL: 577 with TWE 5
  • Computer Based TOEFL: 233 with essay score at least 5 
  • Internet Based TOEFL: 90 with 24+ in the writing section

Additional Criteria for University of Melbourne Scholarship

 

Applicants for the University of Melbourne Postgraduate Peace Scholarship for Mexico must be economic graduates interested in pursuing a Masters Degree from the University of Melbourne's Graduate School of Management.

 

Minumum English Language requirements:

  • IELTS: 6.5 overall, and minimum 6.0 in each category
  • Paper Based TOEFL: 577 with TWE 5
  • Computer Based TOEFL: 233 with essay score at least 5 
  • Internet Based TOEFL: 90 with 24+ in the writing section

Once selected, the recipient of this scholarship must sit the GMAT and achieve a minimum of 550.

 

Additional Criteria for University of Technology, Sydney Scholarship

 

Applicants for the University of Technology, Sydney Postgraduate Peace Scholarship for Mexico must be nursing graduates interested in pursuing a Masters Degree from the UTS's Faculty of Nursing.

 

Minumum English Language requirements:

  • IELTS: 6.5 overall, and minimum 6.0 in each category
  • Paper Based TOEFL: 575 with TWE 4.5
  • Computer Based TOEFL: 231 with essay score at least 4.5 
  • Internet Based TOEFL: 90 with 21+ in the writing section

STEP 2:

 

The following materials must be received by the Secretariat of Education, Mexico by 30 September, 2008  

  1. Completed, printed and signed application form
  2. Completed, printed and signed Agreement of Award Terms and Conditions
  3. Certified true copy of English translated official academic transcript, including current year grades - certified by university President / Rector / vice-chancellor or faculty dean at your home university.
  4. Proof of English language ability including IELTS or TOEFL (paper-based, computer-based or internet based)
  5. Two References/Testimonials in English
  • One reference/testimonial from home institution (Dean or higher). This reference/testimonial must follow the format outlined on the Home Institution Reference Form and address the criteria requested
  • One reference/testimonial from someone you have worked with on a particular community service project that you talk about in your application (preferably your supervisor), or from someone who can honestly discuss your involvement in community based activities and projects and who has known you for more than 2 years. This reference/testimonial must follow the format outlined on the Community Leader Reference Form and address the criteria requested.

Note: References cannot be submitted from a person to whom you are related.

IMPORTANT DATES

  • 30 September 08 - applications clow
  • October 08 - applications shortlisted
  • November 08 - shortlisted applicants requested to submit additional material as required by the Australian University
  • November 08 - shortlisted applicants sent to Australian university for final selection
  • December 08 - successful applicants announced
  • January - April 09 - recipients submit visa applications etc
  • July 09 - travel to Australia and commencement of Program
