September 2008 Update
Almost three months have happened since I
arrived to Australia! I can’t believe it. I am so happy living
here! This month I have been spending the most of my time working
in my university assignments. It has been a little difficult
because of I have never studied in English before, but I am
learning a lot and my English is getting better.
As an international business student, it has
been interesting to work in teams with people from all around the
world. I have had the opportunity of sharing experience about
Mexico and I have been getting knowledge about others countries. I
am especially excited about one of my courses in which my team is
integrated for a Chinese, a German and a Norwegian so that we can
develop our project since different points of view. During our
meetings, we use to talk about the situations in our countries. It
is very interesting.
I am also learning a lot about Australian
history and culture. Life is Australia is amazing. This month, I
went to Magnetic Island. It is a pretty beautiful place with
wonderful beaches. Its National Park has a plenty of wildlife, like
rock wallabies, possums, koalas and a wide variety of
bird-life.
Next week, I have a lecture recess. I hope to
have the opportunity of visiting more places like these!
August 2008 Update
This month has been wonderful. It was not easy
the first days in Townsville, since I did not know anyone, but I
got use quickly to my new life in this place and I really like it.
I have known a lot of people from different countries like Germany,
Netherlands, France, Peru, US, Colombia, Norway, Denmark and
another Mexican. I live with a Malaysian girl, a German, an
American and three Australians. It is so exciting to gain knowledge
of their different cultures, and even to learn some words in
different languages. I have discovered how people think about
diverse issues around the world and it so interesting to know
different points of view. All Australians have been so kind
persons. It has been especially interesting to find out about
aboriginal people in the region.
There have been a lot of cultural and sport
activities here in the city. I went to the “Jazz Festival” and to
the “Cultural Fest”. At school I am participating in a soccer team
which is truly funny. I like coexisting with others students inside
a healthy competition environment.
Among this month, I visited some beautiful
places here in Townsville and surroundings. I went to Magnetic
Island, in where we could see some wild koalas. They are so cute!
It is a pretty beautiful place. Also, I was in a place named
Paluma. It is a jungle with a plenty of vegetation that I have
never seen and a gorgeous sight. I really like this place!
Regards action groups, it has been difficult to
set any activity all of us together, since we are so far. But
anyway, we are planning to do diferentes activities in each city
and we are contemplating the possibility of organizing something in
Brisbane in October.
I am at ease and homelike here in Australia.
Townsville is an extremely relax city and I am enjoying living
here, my classes, my new friends and all these experience!
July 2008 Update
I left my home on July, 4th. It was when it
began. I was a little nervous during the trip from my house to San
Diego, where I took the flight. Leaving your family, house, friends
and completely your life and your country is not so easy. I had a
lot of opposing feelings.
I felt better when I arrived to L. A. airport
and saw others recipients there. We arrived to Sydney airport very
early and were taken to our hostel, when I was for nine days. There
we met some people that belong to the Peace Scholarship Program, as
well. It was great coexisting with persons from different
cultures.
Since my first days in Australia I realized
that its culture is very different to ours and is so interesting to
learn about it. I have the opportunity to meet gorgeous people
while in Sydney. We visited some famous places in this city that
are pretty beautiful where we took a lot of pictures. When we
visited Bondi Beach was very special since it was our last walk all
together. I learned that we can speak different languages and have
different customs but friendship is the same around the world.
Now, I am in Townsville. I have met the
University where I am going to study and it is beautiful. There are
a lot of trees, plants, birds and even little kangaroos named
wallabies. It was incredible my second day here when I woke up and
opened the window there were three wallabies just under my
window!
I really want to begin my classes here in order
to meet new people and know more about the life in Townsville and
Australia.
