November 2008

November in Melbourne has a traditional advertising task: to promote against prostate cancer. All men in this place let their moustaches grow for receiving free grilled hamburgers. It is called Mouvember, and I already got mine.

However, everyday is still new. People are leaving, arriving and moving and so on. It is pretty similar to weather, which is unexpected.

Knowing people from around the world change the expectations and involve you in a deeper view about things as values and similarities. Differences either.

There is a plan for going through the east coast at mid December. There are some amazing places that I just have known about from other people experiences. The plan is going for know them.

November as my favourite month has showed me that I am living in one of the most creative and multicultural spots of this world. I might say I am lucky.

October 2008 Update

Another nice month for me in Melbourne. Too windy because the spring but now it seems to be really hot during the approaching summer. I’m anxious about that.

Two weeks ago I had the opportunity to discover Tasmania. Several myths of that Australian island are known in this country. Roger and Jack were the names of two Wallabies that followed us throughout the trip. Was amazing, those marsupials can smile. Big mountains, great beaches, rainbows, rainforest and tiny towns, which shows how’s the lifestyle into the last state of this country.

It was a five-day amazing road trip. Anyway, being back in Melbourne several surprising and periodical festivals, which brings bands from the entire world, brings to this city an exceptional cultural touch. Goran Bregovic took the last sunday night at the Art Centre, showing a tree-hour performance of  exceptional east Europe folk music.

The month ended with the Great Ocean trip-Road. Twelve Apostles and a big rock bridge cutting the sea tide and the winter let you know how small you are. Rocks and huge cliffs are shoring the whole coast of the southeast Victoria.

School is going very good. Diary activities let me know this beautiful city. Places where you can find everything related with everyone. I think I already fell in love with Melbourne.

September 2008 Update

This month has been as good as the past ones. September showed new expectations and several things to plan for future.

We made the Funding Race for Afghanistan with a big party in a Brazilian Centre. It functioned as expected.  However, the Melbourne Group made a good work on it and now is willing to receive more students from this country.

As you know Eleanor, we spent a really good dinner on Federation Square that night. Seems like all the Melbourne Group know each other and have a friendly and healthy relationship.

However, my plans for the further weeks are in Tasmania. Three of us are waiting for October 4th to go for five days to this island. Plans for summer vacation are being analysed too. Asia is the selected place.

Moreover, the school at the Language Centre is going good. We are about to end the half of the course and I think my English has improved in some aspects I needed to.

The Melbourne Art Festival is comming on October 9th. I’m waiting for it. A lot of good exhibitions and performances are in the schedule Reddy to be tasted. Philip Glass and more artists will decorate Melbourne streets.

Finally, I want to thank you again for everything and you constant attention.

Sincerely, Daniel.

August 2008 Update

As my second monthly report, I must say that I;m having good peace experiences here in Melbourne.  Although I have had health problems, I have met people from India, China, Japan, Vietnam, Korea and go on.  All of them at the Language Centre where I already finished my first term with good marks.  However, knowing people from Asia and different cultures have inspired me to travel.

In other hand, the Group in Melbourne of Peace Scholars and me are planning the fund race of Afghanistan with different and really good ideas for win it. Furthermore, is a little difficult to get an often contact with the members on different Universities at Melbourne as a result of the distance, schedules and, at this time, the weather.  However, i think we all will make a good fund race plan.

Moreover, cultural activities at the city are really good. I have been in some exhibitions: Klippel/Klippel at the National Gallery of Victoria and now im planning to go to the Art Deco exposition at Victoria Museum. I will try to involve deeper at the cultural exhibitions asking for some volunteer at Museums or Galleries. I really want to live that experience.

In conclusion, activities as the fund race and personal interests are being good for me in this winter.  It’s really nice to learn about the life here at Melbourne City.

Again, thank you for the attention every time we need it.  Sincerely, Daniel.
