Bernardita Paz Sepulveda Benitez

Bernardita Sepulveda is part of her University’s Folklore
Ballet, she loves dancing and she thinks it is a good way to let
others learn from her country’s culture. She is an English pedagogy
student and strongly believes that studying in Australia will give
her new teaching methods in order to make her classes more
enjoyable. She is a part of a Christian community that helps young
people; with the community she has also helped homeless and poor
kids by giving them food and shelter.
Fresia Antonia San Martin
Host University: Macquarie University

Antonia San Martin is an English student who believes that
education is the key of progress. She is an English teacher for
people who don’t have money to pay private lessons. She is
interested in literature, foreign languages and arts. Antonia is a
volunteer with a group of people that protects street dogs she was
also part of a campaign that helped people who were damaged after a
flood in Chile. She thinks that studying in Australia will give her
a great opportunity to grow as a person to share her experiences
with others. Her goal as a teacher is to teach people something
meaningful.
Jose Miguel Inostroza Munoz
Host University: University of South Australia

Jose Miguel studies English pedagogy at Universidad de la Playa
Ancha San Felipe Campus in Chile. He is very keen on music and he
is a part of a band, he and his band have played for various
recitals. He has worked as an assistant in the grammar area of his
program at university and also has volunteered to collect food and
clothes for children. Jose Miguel was elected President of the
Students’ senate in 2006 and with other classmates they orient
students to help and improve solidarity amongst classmates in order
to improve their relationship and consequently their grades. He
would like to travel overseas to know many cultures and teach his
students to value and comprehend different ways of life and to
show
them what you can gain by being fluent in a foreign
language.
Karina Angelica Ibarrola Hernandez
Host University: University of South Australia

Karina Ibarrola is studying English Teaching and is very
interested in learning from Australian culture so that she can
widen her view of the world and understand it from different
perspectives. She is part of a program that is focused on helping
first-year students in academic and personal performance at the
university. She has done some fundraising as a volunteer for
“Teleton” an organization that helps disable children and adults in
their rehabilitation. Karina thinks that studying in Australia will
help her to provide her students with the necessary academic tools
so that they can use them in daily life. She thinks that English is
the door to understand and learn from other cultures.
Nevenka Roa
Host University: La Trobe University

Nevenka Roa studies pedagogy at Universidad Metropolitana de
Ciencias de la Educacion in Chile. She strongly believes that
studying in Australia will help her to share her culture and
traditions with other people. She was a volunteer in a charity
foundation which helps children with intellectual difficulties. Her
work experience has made her realize her strengths and weaknesses
as an English teacher. Her primary aim of being a teacher is to
teach not only the language but also about culture and
understanding between people.
Paulina Ester Valdebenito Alvarado
Host University: University of South Australia

Paulina Valdebenito likes teaching English because she can help
others to improve their knowledge of the language and culture in a
way that they can achieve their personal goals in life. She is an
active member of a church where she usually organizes different
activities to help the community. She has been giving free English
lessons and her goal as an English teacher is to make her students
feel that they are not only acquiring a language but also to feel
part of a greater, global community. She believes studying in
Australia will help her to improve her English and her self-
confidence so that she can share what she learns abroad with her
future students and motivate them to have aspirations. In addition
to this, she thinks this is a great opportunity to learn more about
Australia and be more conscious of other cultures.
Pia Carolina Tabali Marin
Host University: Edith Cowan University

Studying Education helps Pia Tabali to understand the different
realities in Chile. She strongly believes that through education
the difference between the poor and the rich could be reduced. Pia
believes studying in Australia will allow her to know another
interesting culture and will help her to develop her skills and to
become a stronger teacher. Pia has been working in shanty towns
giving educational support to children, has been going volunteer
jobs in Chilean’s rural areas and is involved in an ONG helping
people living in the Santiago slums to develop their own projects.
Pia is a top one student at Universidad Central and has been
involved in the University’s student organizations.
Rodrigo Felipe Arellano Arellano
Host University: University of Western Sydney

Rodrigo Arellano is an English Teaching student at the Catholic
University of Temuco. He is a leader of his ecclesial community and
as a part of this community he has performed different tasks such
as forming kids to do their first communion and helping his members
through spiritual guidance. He has also been a part of literary
groups through which he has helped the development of the cultural
movement of literature in his hometown. Rodrigo thinks the
experience of studying in Australia will increase his strong
commitment to become a better teacher.
